FUNDAMENTALS OF PASTEL: Weekly Class

The focus of this course is to provide a greater understanding of the pastel medium by exploring diverse color ranges, brands of pastels, papers, and other tools used by pastel artists. The course will emphasize the importance of composition, color, shadows, and light. Students may work from a still life set-up or a photographic reference.

Dates: March 26th, April 9th, April 16th, April 23rd, April 30th (no class on April 2nd)

PAINTING WITH PASTELS: Four Day Workshop

The objective of this workshop is to help each artist reach his or her potential as a pastel painter. This is a 4 day workshop where students will work from 9:00am - 12:00pm and 1:00pm - 4:00pm each day.  The workshop will begin with a demonstration, followed by an explanation of materials and technique. There will be an emphasis on representational painting using various still life set ups as our subjects. Students will learn the importance of drawing, composition, values, and color selection.   We will also discuss how to block in color and build multiple layers to create vibrant and cohesive compositions.

Dates: March 8 - 11, 2010, Monday-Thursday

Time: 9:00 am-4:00 pm

Tuition: $350, payable to the Guild of Creative Art.
